Wood Whisperer Community

Hi people,

Here's my first entry in my blog. I thought it would be a good idea to write down the list of project I want to do (in the right order). I never been very good at keeping a blog "alive" but if there is one that I am fully motivated to work on is a woodworking blog. Hopefully I'll have the discipline to keep you guys inform on my progress on every project I'm working on. To be honest, at this point this list is probably more to myself, as a reminder, but who knows one day my blog maybe followed by others...

So let's start with the list

1) Octagonal box (doing 3 in the same time, current project)

2) Marc's Cuttingboard (will do 2)

3) Not sure how to call this (you can help me guys...) since english is not my first language. It's a piece of wood or ceramic or even sometime made in cork. This think is used to place hot plate coming out from the oven on the table. I hope you understand what I mean. Once again, I plan on making 2 of these.

--> Update: Thanks to Dan, it is called a trivet.

4) Bookshelf for my daugther's bedroom. I have to reproduce the same style and looks of the other piece of furniture in her room for the bookshelf.

5) Mini-bookshelf for our bedroom. Once again, I have to stick to the style of the other piece in my bedroom. I'll do also 2 of these (one for each side of the bed).

6) Japanese Bookshelf. My first own design project. The design itself is almost complete and I must say that I am pretty proud of how it came out... can't wait to do this one, should be an amazing journey.

That's it for now, as you can see I have a lot on my plate. I'll try to keep that list updated over time since there is always new things that need to be done that you did not expect to.

So my next posting in this new blog will cover the octagonal box. This project is already started so I'll just start from where I am.

Don't hesitate do put comments on this post (so I'll know at least you read it)

Christian

That's a very nice trivet. I like the profile of the base. Mine will have the same kind of top made with a ceramic tile. Thanks for posting the pics.

Anyway, right now I am so exited about the community website and the chance it will give be to blog about my project in the shop.

Here's a couple of pics of a trivet my pal in WA made as an early wood project. The top is tile so even the hottest pans could be set on it.
I learned that the origin of "trivet" is Latin, for the tripod used over a cooking fire.

I hope you'll post some pictures so I can take a look at them. As you can see, I still have a few other project first but by the time I'm ready, yours should be completed. I intend to "blog" the craft process so stay tune and don't hesitate to comment, I'll be able to benefit from your experience :-)

I am also in the process of making trivets. These are for my mother who will be adding wine corks to them as the base. So far 3 made out of Ash and one out of cherry. Just need to sand and finish.

Indeed I will be busy for quite sometimes. Thanks for the "trivet", after looking the dictionary, it it exactly what I was referring to. I tried searching for the origin of the word and nothing points to a french word.

Anyway thanks for the info, really appreciate.

Looks like you'll be busy for awhile with that list.
We call your #3 a "trivet" around our house. I always thought it was a French origin word.
