In regards to your vises. Personally I couldn't choose between a tail/end or a face vice. It's kind like asking to I'd rather have my right or left leg. Face vises allow are typically used to joine…

If your are talking about imported or domestic ply you are really talking a crap shoot as they can use anything for the internal structure..like softwood, hardwoods of different species. If you are talking about balitc birch...then that's a whole d…

John just to give you an extreme example of the difference between drying and curring. Latex wall paint takes 2 hours to dry/recoat but it takes 30 days for it to cure. Something they really don't mention on the label explicitly but other then they…

Your not doing anythink wrong....actually sounds on the contrary...sounds like you are doing everything right. Remember there is a BIG BIG BIG difference between drying and curring. Drying can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 24 hour ...Curring tha…

I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. I'll start with your last point first. The point of an adjustable mouth is compensate that the frog (the part that supports back of the blade) is fixed). That being said the point of being able to…

You can certainly reburish tools...depends if you like fixing tools or woodworking. The downside of fixing up old tools are you have to know what to buy and what not to buy..knowledge of how to set them up and a bit of metal work oh yeah and you wil…

Another way is to screw from the outside into the web frames and then hide the screw heads (and dress up the project!) with some false tenons. Look at page 37 of this file: http://www.woodsmith.com/files/issues/sample/sample.pdf to see what I'm ta…

All those tools are very good tools.. You shouldn't have buys remorse for any of those..well expect for the lynx...which is just ok but saying that most gent saws are just ok. Getting into sharpening early is a GREAT IDEA. I have all those and do…

1" + 1/8" + cabinet opening = Width of both doors Width of both doors /2 - 1/16 = width of one door. Width of one door - (stile width X 2) + depth of t&G = width of panel. Height can be any think you wish from 1/2 to whatever. Carefully if makin…

Few questions for ya. how are you mounting your hinge to the cabinet? Is it a barrel hinge? What type of overlay are you looking for? Do you have two doors or 1? What type of joinery did you want to use on your rail and stiles?

If using the jointer no doesn't not guarantee that both sides are parallel to each other. You could taper one side and it would still be 90 to both faces. On the jointer you have two reference surfaces but you can only use 1 at a time, either the f…

Thank you for the positive comments. I have spent the last 10 years as an Engineering manager and had only a couple of hours during the week and on weekends to do what I like most - wood working. I am trying to do more of that again, maybe full time.
The floor is actually a pre-finished Andersen solid oak floor. I don't remember the exact name of the color. I would probably not go with a pre-finished floor again, but it was a lot more convenient then.
