Waxing cast iron tops

It was the oldest past wax I had. Not one of the new fangled spray wax. But I did not know it need to be silicon free. What is the down side of the silicon, will it discolor the wood?

I followed Marc's steps on my newly acquired cast iron table saw and it did make a huge difference. He offers excellent advice and a wealth of knowledge. Glad I found the site!

I've heard that the silicon can transfer to the wood and mess up your finishing. I think Marc mentions that in his video. I just used Johnson's paste wax, so I don't have experience with the downside of silicon.

Not quite so simple - did you check that the car wax was silicon-free?

Long time novice, that never progress in wood working. So now I am replacing all of my 35 year old equipment. Looking long and hard at Festool. Hope the Festool products will make me SMARTER, woodworking EASER, and getting projects done FASTER.

This is not the first go round with tools. I'am replacing some tools that are 35 years old. I have tools that cross the whole price range. Ryobi, Makita, Ridgid and lots of sears Craftsman. I will keep the Festools for the finer work. Plus You are buying into the Festool system, not just the tools.

Better break out the checkbook! You should do some research first. The best tool isn't always the most expensive. Pick up some tool guides or start a blog. See what everyone else is using.
